WroteAbout is a place for your travels, and they're yours. We keep what we need to run your page, show it only to the people you choose, and never sell it or use it for ads.
Who we are
WroteAbout is run by Adsy LLC (Wyoming, USA). Questions about your data: privacy@wroteabout.com.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address, name and username, and whether you'd like occasional news from us.
- Your profile: a profile photo, where you're based and a short bio, if you add them. And, if you fill it in, your writing profile for Write with AI (who you travel with, interests, how you like to write, and a writing sample if you add one), which only you see.
- What you add: your map (countries, places you lived, transit stops, destinations and your Want to go list), trips, stories, photos and flights.
- Budgets and costs you add to a trip, and your home currency. Only you see them; they're never shown on your page or to people who follow you.
- Who you follow and who follows you.
- Signing in: a session so you stay signed in, and short-lived sign-in codes. To stop abuse we count sign-in attempts per IP address for a few minutes.
What we don't do
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics cookies, and we never sell your data.
- Photos lose their location and camera details in your browser before they're uploaded. We keep a resized copy, not your original.
- We don't show follower, like or view counts to anyone.
Who can see what
You choose when you sign up, and can change it any time in Edit profile: only you, people you approve (the default) or everyone. Trips you're on and trips you're planning stay hidden unless you choose to show them, so nobody can tell when you're away from home. Each trip can also be hidden on its own. A map image you share is yours to post wherever you like.
Who helps us run it
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores your data and photos.
- Resend sends sign-in codes and notification emails.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google. And if you use "Write with AI" in the story editor, Google's Gemini asks a few questions about your notes and writes the draft: we send it your notes, your answers and the trip's details (title, dates, places, who went and your photo captions), never your photos, plus your writing profile if you filled it in (who you travel with, interests, how you like to write, and a writing sample if you add one). Google doesn't use this to train its models.
- OpenFreeMap provides street-level map detail. When you zoom in far on a map, your browser asks them for that area's map tiles.
- ExchangeRate-API gives us the day's exchange rates for converting costs. We ask once a day for everyone at once; nothing about you is sent.
Your data and photos are stored in the EU. Some of these providers are American companies and may process data outside your country, including in the United States.
Cookies
One cookie, to keep you signed in. Before you sign up, the countries you tap on the home page are kept in your own browser, so a refresh doesn't lose them. No other cookies.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete your account, everything goes straight away: your map, trips, stories, photos and flights. Backups are cleared within 30 days.
Your rights
- Take it with you: download your data any time, as a zip with everything, photos included.
- Correct it: change your details in Edit profile.
- Delete it: delete your account, for good.
- Ask or object: write to privacy@wroteabout.com. If you're not happy with our answer you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If we change this in a way that matters, we'll tell you by email before it applies.
