About us
We've been lucky enough to travel a lot. What we never managed was to hold on to it.
How it started
Over the years we flew all around the world. We tracked our trips in several apps, kept thousands of photos on our iPhones, and had plans for photo books that never got made.
And somewhere along the way (getting older may have something to do with it) we noticed we couldn't recall the specifics anymore. The name of that little place we had dinner. Which day it rained. What we actually did in the second week.
Why write it down
Journaling is having a moment, and we try to make notes while we travel. But trips especially deserve to be kept somewhere we can go back to, in proper words and pictures.
That may feel a little old school, when so much of the internet is short videos made to be scrolled past. We just wanted to put our memories on paper. If they help someone else plan a trip, wonderful. If nobody else reads them, we still have our travel diary.
Why not another travel app
The travel apps we tried are mostly about the route, and less about what happened along it. You can add notes, but they're built for phones, and writing anything longer than a line is a chore. We wanted a blog first, with the travel parts built in.
We've had the idea for a long time, under a different name. Building it as a hobby project simply cost too much. Then AI changed what a few people can build on their own, so we took on the challenge, and WroteAbout is the result.
What it is
A blogging platform for your travels, with blocks that are useful to different kinds of travellers: a map of where you've been, trips with their route and stays, a flight log, what things cost, and recommendations for the hotels and places to eat you'd send a friend to. Use the ones that suit you and ignore the rest.
Your blog, your way
- Your data is yours. Download all of it whenever you like, and take it with you.
- Earn from it your way. Want to add affiliate links to the hotel you loved? Go ahead; just be honest about it (see the Terms).
- Your own address. Every blog has its own address on WroteAbout, and your own domain name is on the way.
Nobody starts big. Most blogs start with one trip for family and friends, and some grow into something with real readers. We want WroteAbout to still be the right place when that happens, so you never have to pack up and move. Plenty of blogging platforms don't do that, or don't have a feel for travel the way we'd like.
Tell us what's missing
WroteAbout is never finished. We're always thinking about what to add and what to make better, and the best ideas so far came from people using it. Something missing, confusing or broken? Tell us.
